About
Emma Pounch
H.Dip.Ed, M.I.A.H.I.P
I am an accredited psychotherapist and an EMDR practitioner, working in a private practice since 2014. As a a Humanistic and Integrative pychotherapist I work with a variety of modalities, my work is person centred and I hold unconditional positive regard for my clients. I have 20 years experience with therapeutic movement and Somatic experiencing and I also practice Biodynamic bodywork and massage.
I provide a deep listening space of holding and presence and I believe that it is possible to heal and transform our past traumas. Sometimes we can feel stuck in negative thinking potholes or thinking and feeling loops from past traumatic patterns. In order to break free from these patterns we need help and guidance. I have a life long love for how we work, what happens to us as a result of trauma? But also I have a passion for how we heal and transform our lives.
My specific area of interest is PTSD resulting from birthing trauma, I have also worked with PTSD resulting from accidents, assault, childhood sexual abuse. In addition I have worked with more complex trauma resulting from relationship betrayal trauma and breakdown, grief and loss, addiction and depression, anxiety as well as developmental trauma.
I provide a safe and confidential space with the support of regular supervision. I adhere to and uphold the ethical framework of IAHIP. I am a member of EMDR Ireland.
My background is in teaching and the Arts, I hold a H. Dip. in English and Philosophy, a Diploma in Theatre facilitation skills with Certs in Arts and Empowerment Facilitation skills and Laban Community dance. I have also completed a conscious dance teacher training with Movement Medicine. I have taught drama and therapeutic dance to adults with special needs and challenging behaviour for 11 years with the G.R.E.T.B and the Brothers of Charity.
In 2009 I began training as a Biodynamic, Humanistic and Integrative psychotherapist. This training gave me the tools to really work with and listen to the body, together with talk therapy, clients felt held and could process and resolve trauma successfully. In 2021 I completed a training in EMDR, this gave me another extremeley effective tool to process trauma.
I have a keen interest in women's groups which allow women to share their story, be that birthing trauma, relationship/parenting issues or menopause/perimenopausal experiences. I enjoy working towards creating a place for women to explore their spiritual journey through dance and movement or creating a sacred space for us to share. In 2024 I will be part of a team bringing a series of workshops to explore and work with divine feminine archetypes.
