Bodywork
Biodynamic massage and Bodywork
My training is a in Biodynamic Psychotherapy, this involves a specific form of body work and massage that was developed by a Norwegian psychotherapist called Gerda Boyesen in the 1950s.
This approach recognises the interconnectedness between the mind and the body as well as the body's innate intelligence to restore equilibrium and balance. Boyesen believed in an energy or life force in the body which she called the Oceanic Flow. She maintained that when this energetic flow becomes blocked or stagnant it can lead to physical and emotional issues. Biodynamic massage and bodywork aims to release these blocks and restore aliveness and equilibrium.
Sometimes it can be a real struggle to come out of our thinking 'head' space. We can get caught in repeating negative thought patterns and beliefs. Working with massage and bodywork, awareness is brought down into the body allowing for the possibility of connection and renewed life force.
In my practice I have found this work to be very effective for depression, anxiety, low self worth and feelings of disconnection.
“I first started seeing Emma for depression, anxiety and general low mood. I was a little unsure of the body work at first but in our first session I had some very deep experiences. I learned how the body and mind are connected and how the body can hold onto things. Taking the time to get what my body needs and trying to connect with it was really rewarding. I would definitely recommend it.”

What to expect:
Before beginning body work we will work together to create a foundation and safety within the therapeutic relationship. This will include a little history and back ground and an exploration into what your needs are within this work. The therapeutic relationship is considered crucial in biodynamic massage, providing a safe and supportive environment to facilitate the client's exploration and healing.
In some sessions clients may experience a spontaneous and natural movement called a biodynamic 'unwinding' of the body that allows for a release of physical or emotional tension.
